Pipeline Location

the_problem

Donegal County Council intend to discharge treated effluent from a sewage works into the Foyle Estuary at the townsland of Carnagarve. This will include all the sewage from the combined towns of Moville and Greencastle with provision for a minimum of 3 emergency discharges of untreated sewage during the bathing season from 1st June until 15th September. This proposal comes even with the full knowledge that the tide will take the effluent ashore twice a day with the total destruction of our beautiful bathing waters and beaches.

the_solution

The plant and discharge should go North of Greencastle out into the open sea as agreed in a Donegal County Council meeting of 1990 in Lifford. This meeting stated: “This council reject any proposal to pump sewage or effluent from the proposed Moville / Greencastle sewage scheme into Lough Foyle and the location of the proposed treatment.” This outcome of this meeting can be viewed in the Documents section of this site.
